Sailing Magazine Boat Test, March 2010 Issue

Last fall Sailing Magazine Editor David Liscio and his wife went sailing with Robbie Doyle on his e33 in Marblehead. Here’s what he had to say:

A Daysailer that’s Fast and Fun with Plenty of Room for Friends
Sailmaker Robbie Doyle, who concocted the e33 performance daysailer with designer Jeremy Wurmfeld, was walking speedily along the dock of the Pleon Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts, when we arrived for an early October sail. Doyle does most things quickly, and as if to show how simple these boats are to rig he had two e33s ready to go in about five minutes. Read the full article here.

Youngest ever e33 crew member?

Most enthusiastic e33 crew
member ever!

Early Spring Club Racing

In Fairhope, Alabama, e33 hull #12 owner Rick Skinner has kicked off the racing season by starting to train some very young crew members. Here's his report.

"Here in Fairhope we have finally been able to get back in the boat as it’s climbed up to around 60F for the past two sunny Sunday afternoons of club racing. At one point while we were on a reach the wife of a crew member spread out in the aftdeck with her her 10-month-old son sleeping on the job...we had apparent winds of 18-19 kts some of the time. Not a drop of spray, even in Mobile Bay's choppy water.

Back at the dock after race, we posed for a picture with aspiring 11-yr-old, pint-sized crew member (not the husband) and mom with her 10 month old...still sleeping. The 11 yr old was so excited to race with me that he wanted to go home after the early service of church (ending at 9:30 AM) so that he could "get ready" for the race at 2:00 PM. It's only a five-minute drive to the marina, and all he had to bring was his life jacket and sailing gloves! That's what I call enthusiasm!”

Sailing World editor Mark Pillsbury and Jeremy Wurmfeld in Miami
e33 featured in Sailing World Video

The e33 was the busiest sailboat at the Miami boat show last month! Besides hosting about fifty people for test sails, we took the opportunity to shoot a new video of the boat. The video is the closest you’ll get to an e33 without actually sailing on one!

In this short clip, e Sailing Yachts co-founder and designer Jeremy Wurmfeld, walks us through the boat’s features at the dock, and then helps to show off the e33’s performance capabilities under sail. You can see the full video here.

New Model Updates

e Sailing Yachts and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding are steadily working towards the launches of the much anticipated e27 performance daysailer (intro price: $125,000) in early 2011, and the e44 performance cruiser (call for pricing) in late 2011. Just in time to celebrate our five year anniversary! We are now taking pre-orders on both models.

The e27 features elegant lines, a large comfortable cockpit, easy sail handling and gives nothing away in performance. This daysailer is designed for no-hassle sailing and is perfect for single handing. The sails can be easily raised and trimmed without winches. Her v-hull combined with high stability and high lift foils makes for a fast, dry ride. A carbon fiber mast with swept spreaders and no backstay allows for an ultra efficient flat top mainsail and easy to handle roller furling headsail.

The new e44 performance cruiser will exemplify our winning combination of performance, comfort and ease of handling. The innovative cockpit will feature a sail handling and lounging area as well as a below deck traveler to maximize comfort and ease of use. Down below there is a smartly designed, spacious and well appointed cabin that can be customized to suit the owners’ wishes.
