SKeDADDLE

Skinner's e33

First time out.

Rick Skinner e33 #12
We sailed in the 50th anniversary of the 18 Mile Dauphin Island Race hosted by Fairhope Yacht club of Fairhope, Al. There were 230 boats entered. This was the SKeDADDLE's maiden voyage. We finished 3rd in class and 4th overall. With a shot at winning, we over stood the finish line! Three generations of Skinners were onbaord: Skipper, Rick the owner of Skedaddle, his 87 year old father and his son Ben. The race started with extremely light air on the wind and finished in a 15 knot sea breeze. With the boat performed extremely well in both the very light and the robust sea breeze.

2008 shoal draft keel e33

Why build a shoal draft version of the e33?
The shoal draft keel makes the e33’s easy performance sailing accessible to more sailors around the world. There are so many wonderful shallow water sailing venues and now they are able to be explored with an e33.

Who is the shoal draft e33's intended customer?
There are many shallow bays and inlets that allow for fantastic daysailing and racing. Sailors in these waters can now own an e33.

What will be the performance advantage, disadvantage of the e33 SD 4.75?
The unique combination of offering a very stable heavy air boat and yet a slippery and quick light air boat remains alive with the shoal keel. There is a an additional 175 lbs. and a lower aspect ratio profile to the shoal keel, yet our performance analysis reveals that the e33 shoal draft will be a winner.

Will there be any changes to the sailplan or sail carrying capacity of the shoal draft model?
No changes at all! The shoal draft and standard keel models both allow for the large roach main and standard jib. Both trimmed without winches. In addition, the spinnaker and code zero are available for both models.

Are you continuing to build the e33 with the standard keel with 5.75ft draft?
Of course…we don’t fix what isn’t broken!

When will the first e33 SD 4.75 be in the water?
We’ll be launching the first shoal draft keel in Rhode Island in early June and sailing with the owner on their shoal draft e33 to Eastern Long Island in New York. We enjoy helping deliver the vessels to their home waters as it is such a great way to make sure the boat is perfectly set up for the new owner. Often the new owner makes the trip with us and there is nothing like spending time on the water to forge new friendships.

Are there any other plans for more configurations on the e33 keel?
Actually, yes. We have a very exciting lifting keel model that is in development for a Canadian client. That boat will be sailing in June as well. More information on that will follow in future newsletters.

If someone was to order an e33 shoal draft what is the production time?
That depends on a variety of factors…give us a call!
