e33 Detail of the month
We will be highlighting a detail on the e33 each month over the next few months. In so many ways the details that make up the boat are what give it individuality, setting it ahead of the rest either in technology or just its appearance. In the case of the e33, those things add up to performance and ease of use. This month we will talk about a detail that is an option.
e33, Raymarine autopilot
To your left, is a picture of the optional removable Raymarine autopilot recessed into the side of the cockpit with the quick release waterproof plug. This application accomplishes all of our requirements while maintaining a clean appearance when not in use and easily removed and stowed away.
The objective of this installation was to provide the correct angle for the autopilot to perform at its optimum efficiency without being precarious and in the way, such as mounted on top of the cockpit seat bunk. This autopilot option allows the sailor to raise the main while under power when sailing single handed.
The bottom photo is an economical, yet effective way of securing the tiller while single handling the e33. Robbie Doyle uses this on "eclipse" in Marblehead enabling him to raises the main halyard from the companionway, as his halyard is not lead aft to winch in the cockpit.
